Mugs mugs mugs

A giant mug (as you can see by the mug compared to the hand) that I aspire to make because it could be used as a mug, a soup bowl,  and a cereal bowl. I loved how it still had a handle and could still be used to drink out of, but wasn't the only use for it.

So, I went back to the studio yesterday and alas, I had accidentally kept my cup out so it was almost completely dried out. It was still wet enough in most spots to let me carve out some designs without breaking the mug so, here is what I ended up with. It's not a mug I plan on using for my final presentation, but it was one I made while learning to center and will also be a glazing experiment.

I went to my favorite bakery, Sarah's Patisserie, for breakfast and got a chai. I loved how this mug felt in my hands and the size of the handle. I loved the simple shape yet how it still had some grooves in it for texture and deisgn.

You can't really tell from this picture, but this mug has a circular top for comfortable drinking but the actual shape of the body is square. I found, as well as the big red cup up top, in Pier One Imports. It was pretty funny actually because before going out with my mom to the store, I was browsing Youtube and had come upon a video of a guy explaining how to make a squared out mug. I really love the dimension that it adds and I hope to make a similar mug soon.
